Austin Harris
Guitar / Banjo

Austin Harris was born in North Carolina in 1982. In the 6th grade he began to develop an interest in music, taking occasional lessons from the drummer at his church and also playing trumpet in the school band in Asheville.

Austin got his first guitar when he was

16 and started taking lessons from Rick Praytor who opened his eyes to the beauty of all styles of music including blues, jazz, rock and classical. Under his study, Austin developed a basic understanding of the fretboard, sight-reading, and music theory. Several months later, Austin started leading the music at his dad's church youth group. He later taught his friends to play guitar or hand percussion and formed a small acoustic band to play at church.

Austin graduated from Asheville Christian Academy in 2001 where he also was involved in the music for chapel. He moved to Nashville TN for 5 months for an internship in a recording studio connected to Servant Group International where he learned about the basics of producing and engineering. Upon returning to Asheville he continued leading the music at the youth group and also studied more classical and folk/finger style under Ryan Gore.

In Feb 2003 Austin received a job offer at The Body of Christ in Asheville in the music department part time. Several months later he started leading the band and took over all the responsibilities including the sound and video system and recording and making CD's of the services. In the last year there he played lead guitar in the band under the leadership of Jim Arrendell, and also taught private lessons part time.

Austin moved to Atlanta in March 2006 and began studies at Atlanta Institute of Music under an incredible staff of musicians including Nite Driscoll, Bill Hart, Randy Hoexter, and Steve Reick.

Currently you can find Austin teaching and playing throughout the Atlanta area.
