lessons with Latress McKinney who is a registered member of the National Piano Guild. Gregory really started to shine under her influence. He practiced faithfully and was consistently one of the best performers in his age class. It was under her tutelage from 1993 to 1996 that Gregory started the National Piano Guild Auditions. Gregory has scored Superior in all the guild auditions he participated in, every year from 1993 to 1999. A job related move brought Gregory and his family to Cumming, GA in 1996. He studied under Shelly Stenger from 1996 through 1999. Gregory auditioned for and was accepted to Interlochen Arts Camp in Interlochen, MI. In 1999, Gregory received a perfect score in his piano guild audition. He also had his own thirty-minute solo recital. In 1999, Shelly referred Gregory to Troy Palmer for preparation for college. Troy worked with Gregory to fine-tune his technique in preparation for college and opened his eyes to very efficient ways to practice. Gregory attended North Forsyth High School from 1997 until graduating in 2001. While there, Gregory was a member of the school band and his music abilities broadened out from the piano to any percussion instrument they wanted him to play. He was also a member of the school chorus and jazz band. He also developed skills at playing guitar and drums while participating as a member in several extracurricular bands. Gregory attended college at Truett McConnell in Cleveland, GA. While there he studied under Dr. David George and received many awards including the Who's Who' in Junior Colleges award, the Ruth Minter George Piano scholarship, outstanding bass vocal acknowledgement, and outstanding jazz piano acknowledgement. During his junior year in college Gregory attended GSU and in the summer wound up participating with the Georgia Sate choir on a two-week vocal tour of Russia, Estonia, and Finland. He also maintained a membership in two or three off campus bands. In his senior year in college, back at Truett, Gregory was one of two accompanists for the school chorus and all the student recitals. Recently, he returned from a trip to Wales, England where he was the accompanist for the school chorus and soloists for fourteen performances. Also during college years, Gregory was the music director for two small churches. He was responsible for selecting music and directing the church choir and church bands. Currently Gregory teaches piano as a way to share his passion for music and continues to accompany at Truett-McConnell. |
