Jay Maurice
Piano

Jay Maurice was born in Yonkers, N.Y. He began exploring composition at age 14 and started formal piano study at age 16. He was recognized and awarded by The Winter Park Musical and Heathrow Arts Festival for his achievements on Piano.

On piano scholarship Jay attended Seminole Community College in Sanford, Florida where he was a pupil of Nancy Hartman. At Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana he received a Bachelors degree in Composition and Piano. There he studied piano under John Murphy and Composition under Stephen Dankner and Bill Horn.

Jay Maurice began his professional career upon arriving in Atlanta in 1996. He started performing locally with his band j.j.’s swimming, and in 1998 the group released Sound on Sound, its first CD. The CD was well received in the community and it launched Jay’s reputation as a solid performer in the Atlanta music scene. In addition to solo performances, Jays playing can be heard with the Latonya Peoples Project, Motor City Josh, and the Atrium Jazz Trio. His compositions have been heard on the Concert Stage as well on radio and television.

Jay started teaching Piano in 1997 and soon discovered a new passion. He currently teaches both young students and adults. He currently owns and operates Lessons In Your Home; an Atlanta based music school that travels to students. He is constantly finding new ways to energize pupils.
