Matthew Hernandez
Drums

Matt Hernandez was born and raised near New Orleans, LA. He grew up in a family rich in the arts, which led to a curiosity in music at a young age. Matt started his drum expedition at about age 9. While in school, Matt was “First Chair Drummer” during his marching and

concert band years.

Under the direction of Mark Leblanc, Matt’s Godfather and private tutor from Dallas, Texas, he grew up with many years of drumming fundamentals, and essential practice routines. These sessions included odd time playing, time signatures, and rock drumming. While in school under the direction of Ronald Washington, he received a broad range of experience in New Orleans Jazz, Rhythm and Blues, and Funk which gained him some popularity among the local scene.

Matt Hernandez began pursuing a professional career in music after getting married and moving to Atlanta in late 2002. He started investigating the local scene for the level of ambition and drive he was looking to accomplish. In the spring of 2003, he began performing locally with The Sophia Darcell Project. This was a project that included exclusive shows, and a full album studio session lasting just over six months. The project got great reviews, but ended for Matt in 2005 when it was relocated to Florida. In the fall of 2005, he got set up with a local R&B group Yen and Soul Fine. This led Matt to many new music relationships and exposure to the local scene. The group was featured in the AJC, and some of the project’s work has been aired on Fox 5‘s “Good Morning Atlanta“. As of late Matt is currently recording and performing with a Progressive Rock Band, which is his genre of expertise on the drums. When he is not performing, he finds time to visit family, friends, and occasionally volunteers playing music at a local church. Matt is currently performing and teaching professionally in Atlanta GA.
